Victoria was divided into sixteen regions by the Victorian Cricket Association in 1999 based on municipal boundaries to better meet the needs of Community Cricket and improve the talent identification and development process. These consisted of 8 metro and 8 country regions.
The South East Metro Region (Region 15) encompasses the municipalities of Glen Eira, Monash, Port Phillip and Stonnington and is geographically the smallest region in the State. All clubs with their main home ground situated within these boundaries is linked to this region for all cricket purposes. The region is directly linked to the City of Moorabbin Cricket Association (CMCA), the Mercantile Cricket Association (MCA) and the Southern District & Churches Cricket League (SD&CCL) with most clubs in the region playing in one of these associations. Other associations with which clubs in the region are affiliated with are the Victorian Turf Cricket Association (VTCA), Eastern Cricket Association (ECA), Box Hill Reporter District Cricket Association (BHRDCA), YCWCA, Victorian Women’s Cricket Association (VWCA) Ferntree Gully and District Cricket Association (FTGDCA)and the Victorian Blind Cricket Association (VBCA).
There are two Victorian Premier Cricket (formerly District Cricket) clubs aligned to the region for Pathway purposes to assist with coaching and facilities being Melbourne and St Kilda. Hawthorn Monash University, Prahran and Richmond also reside in the region. There are six Victorian Sub District (VSDCA) clubs in the region being Caulfield, Malvern, Moorabbin, Mt Waverley, Oakleigh and Ormond. This gives the region highest representation of clubs from the two elite competitions in the State. There are two VWCA clubs in the region, which gives an adequate presence of this form of the game in the region. The Masters version of the game is virtually non-existent at this stage in the region.
The South East Metro region has adopted the regional colours of Red, Navy Blue and Yellow. The Regional Cricket Council selected the Seagull as the symbol of the region. The colours and symbol are used by the Victorian Cricket Pathway squads in competitions against the other 15 regions. In Pathway Cricket the region has had some success winning 5 State Championships. Successful squads have been: - 2004/5 Under 15 State Champions - Male
- 2005/6 Under 16 Dowling Shield State Champions - Male
- 2006/7 Under 16 Dowling Shield State Champions - Male
- 2007/8 Under 14 State Champions - Male
- 2007/8 Under 14 State Champions - Female
The Region has also provided a number of State repreentatives in both the Male and Female underage squads. These are listed elsewhere in this website in the Hall of Fame pages underneath both the Male Pathway and Female Pathway menu items. The Regional Cricket Council provides a regional focus for the promotion and development of cricket in the South East Metro region. It is made up of a representative from each of the Associations that have a team in the region, as well as a representative from the VMCU Executive who acts as Chairman. Since the 2001/2 season, the VMCU has empowered the regions to elect their own representative from within its ranks, to sit on the VMCU Executive. This is done by election with each Association with a representative on the Regional Council allowed one vote in choosing the Delegate to the VMCU Executive Committee. The dual role of Regional Chairman and Delegate to the VMCU Board was held by Mr Keith Mackay (SD&CCL) from this time. Unfortunately Keith passed away in September 2004 and the Regional Cricket Council elected Mr Stuart King (SD&CCL) to the dual position from the 2004/5 season. Stuart resigned from this position prior to the 2008/9 season with the resulting election seeing Mr Phil Cox (CMCA) assume the role. |
